3 New Maruti Cars Expected to Feature Hybrid Powertrains in India

Maruti Suzuki is poised to make significant changes in the Indian automotive market with its new hybrid powertrain, developed in-house. The company plans to introduce hybrid technology across several upcoming models. While most automakers are focusing on electric vehicles (EVs), Maruti and a few others, like Toyota, are taking a different route by adopting hybrid systems. In the near future, multiple models from Maruti are expected to feature this hybrid powertrain. Let’s explore what we can expect.
1. Maruti Fronx Hybrid
The Maruti Fronx, which topped sales charts in February 2025, is set to be the first model equipped with the new hybrid powertrain. It is anticipated to launch in mid-2025, boasting impressive fuel efficiency of around 35 kilometers per liter, thanks to its HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology. This system is particularly effective in urban traffic conditions, making driving in congested city areas smoother and more efficient. Furthermore, this hybrid setup is expected to be more cost-effective compared to Toyota’s Atkinson cycle hybrid technology, which is currently used in models like the Grand Vitara and Invicto.
2. Maruti Baleno Hybrid
The Baleno is another model that will benefit from the newly developed hybrid system. It will be paired with a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine, supported by a hybrid setup consisting of a 1.5 to 2 kWh battery and an electric motor. Similar to the Fronx, the Baleno hybrid is expected to achieve fuel efficiency exceeding 35 kmpl. This hybrid technology draws inspiration from Nissan’s e-Power system, which simplifies maintenance efforts and helps keep manufacturing costs low. The Baleno hybrid is expected to debut in early 2026 alongside a generational update and is internally designated as Maruti YTA.
3. Maruti New Compact MPV
Another exciting addition to Maruti’s lineup is a new compact MPV model, based on the Suzuki Spacia available in Japan. Set to launch by mid-2026, this model will also feature the HEV series hybrid system. Codenamed YDB, it will slot below the Ertiga in Maruti’s product range, competing with models like the Renault Triber. The design is expected to have a boxy shape and will feature regular doors in the back row instead of sliding doors as seen on its Japanese counterpart.
As Maruti Suzuki progresses with its hybrid technology, these upcoming models illustrate the company’s commitment to offering efficient and eco-friendly driving solutions. By introducing hybrid options, Maruti is diversifying its portfolio and addressing the growing demand for sustainable transportation in India.
