The Rise of Flyzy: A New Player in the Travel Industry

Introduction

The travel industry has always been competitive, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed the game. Many businesses were forced to adapt or face extinction. In this shifting landscape, one startup, Flyzy, emerged with a fresh approach, catching the attention of both travelers and industry experts. Founded by three young engineers, Flyzy offers a unique solution to improve the airport experience through a digital platform.

Who Are the Founders?

Flyzy was brought to life by three co-founders:

  • Deepak Meena (25) – Co-founder and CEO
  • Arijit Singh (26) – Co-founder and COO
  • Hansraj Patel (25) – Co-founder and CTO

These friends, who all graduated from IIT-Guwahati, embarked on their entrepreneurial journey together at the onset of the pandemic.

The Early Days of Flyzy

The journey began just before the pandemic hit in March 2020. Recognizing the need for safer and more efficient air travel, the trio developed a mobile app aimed at digitizing the airport experience. As travel restrictions loosened, they saw an opportunity to launch their business and quickly gained traction, partnering with over ten airports to enhance their services.

Despite their initial success, the devastating second wave of COVID-19 presented a significant challenge. The founders were faced with monetization issues and financial strain. They needed to pivot their strategy to survive.

Pivoting to Ticket Sales

In May 2022, the Flyzy team made a bold decision to enter the online ticketing market, a space dominated by established players like MakeMyTrip, GoIbibo, and Yatra. However, there was hope. The pandemic had disrupted traditional travel patterns, and everyone was essentially starting from scratch as they tried to bounce back.

With renewed determination, the Flyzy team set an ambitious goal of generating ₹1 lakh in revenue. They exceeded expectations, achieving sales of over ₹40 lakh within just 20 days. This unexpected success revealed a significant opportunity: Corporate clients were responsible for a large portion of their ticket sales, which helped the company identify its niche in the B2B sector.

Finding a Market Fit

As the Flyzy team delved deeper into the corporate travel market, they discovered that their services perfectly matched a growing need. While many companies focused on catering to individual travelers, Flyzy realized there was a substantial gap in services tailored for businesses.

Patel, who drew inspiration from the character Iron Man and envisioned creating something akin to Jarvis, the AI assistant, expressed how Flyzy reflected that dream. This ‘aha moment’ solidified their business direction.

Growth and Revenue

Fast forward to January 2025, Flyzy’s revenue witnessed impressive growth. It surged from ₹6.8 crore in FY23 to ₹70.1 crore in FY24, setting a run rate of ₹160 crore for FY25. Remarkably, the company managed to achieve profitability without relying on institutional funding, a feat not often seen among startups.

Investor Support

The early believers in Flyzy were thrilled with the trajectory of the company’s growth. In early 2022, Flyzy secured $150,000 in funding from Balmer Lawrie and IIM Calcutta, helping them to further refine their business strategy. Industry experts have noted that Flyzy’s understanding of the market’s pain points allowed them to carve out a successful niche.

Future Aspirations

With their recent successes, the Flyzy founders have big aspirations. They aim to become a unicorn in the industry, but with a twist—they prefer to focus on profitability rather than just valuation. This is a refreshing approach in the startup ecosystem, where many companies prioritize fast growth at the expense of financial stability.
