A young and dedicated doctor named Dr. Charlotte Crook sadly lost her life while climbing a mountain in Wales, as reported during an inquest. The incident occurred on February 16, 2025, when the 30-year-old doctor and her friend Adam Weatherhogg were hiking on Glyder Fach, which is located near Llanberis in Snowdonia.
Dr. Crook, who was an enthusiastic hospital clinician and a volunteer with St John Ambulance, was making her way down a rugged part of the path on her stomach. Unfortunately, she seems to have lost her footing, resulting in her falling over a ledge. The fall was quite serious, as it was noted that she dropped about 10 meters (around 30 feet) down the side of the mountain, which stands at a height of 994 meters (3,126 feet).
During the inquest, the senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, John Gittins, described how Mr. Weatherhogg sought to help his friend after her fall. He found a safer way down to reach Dr. Crook and attempted to perform CPR on her until the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team arrived to assist. Sadly, despite the best efforts of rescuers, Dr. Crook, who lived in Perry Barr, Birmingham, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was confirmed as head injuries by the pathologist, Dr. Muhammad Aslam.
Dr. Crook completed her medical degree at Birmingham University in 2022 and had been working for Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. Her death has sparked condolences from various sources, including her peers and the community. St John Ambulance Walsall expressed their sorrow on social media, highlighting Dr. Crook’s dedication and hard work as a volunteer. She had previously held the role of District Youth Lead for the West Midlands District, so many young cadets had the chance to meet her at different events and training.
Friends and colleagues have also shared emotional tributes, reminiscing about Dr. Crook’s kindness and dedication. One friend described her as a bright and compassionate individual who devoted her life to helping others. They mentioned that she was a great colleague, always making sure her team was supported during stressful shifts.
Words of affection continued, as many expressed how her presence brought joy and positivity to their lives. They remembered her as a hardworking, selfless person whose kindness and spirit would surely be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
The inquest into Dr. Crook’s tragic death will be continued at a later date, as further investigations are needed to understand fully what happened that day on the mountain.
