Recent data indicates that the Xiaomi SU7 has outsold the Tesla Model 3 in its initial year. In April alone, the SU7 saw sales of 7,058 units compared to just 5,065 for the Model 3. Although Tesla rebounded in the following months, selling 38,446 units from April to June, and about 52,052 units from July to September, the SU7’s performance indicates strong competition.

As the year progressed, Xiaomi’s SU7 continued to gain traction. Between October and December, nearly 70,000 units of the SU7 were sold, surpassing the Model 3’s sales of approximately 52,000 in the same period. At the start of 2025, Xiaomi sold nearly 23,000 SU7 cars, compared to Tesla’s 8,009 Model 3s. Overall, from April 2024 to January 2025, Xiaomi sold 162,384 SU7 units while Tesla reported sales of 152,748 Model 3s.

Following the success of the SU7, Xiaomi is not stopping there. In December 2024, the company unveiled its plans for the YU7, a new model designed to compete with Tesla’s popular Model Y. Given that the Model Y is currently the best-selling vehicle globally, this will not be an easy task.

Xiaomi’s strategy with the SU7 focused on offering a lower price than the Model 3 while providing better standard features. If Xiaomi adopts a similar competitive pricing strategy for the YU7, it may stand a good chance against the well-established Model Y.
