February 2025 Retail Sales for Two-Wheelers

2024 Hero Splendor Launch and Indian Two-Wheeler Market Sales Analysis
2024 Hero Splendor with Disc Brake
The Indian two-wheeler market has had its ups and downs recently, particularly in February 2025, when the total registrations reached 1,353,280 units. This was a decline of 6.33% from 1,444,674 units in February 2024, as reported by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). Key brands such as Hero, Honda, Bajaj, and Yamaha experienced a drop in sales. On the other hand, some manufacturers, including TVS, Suzuki, Royal Enfield, and Ather, managed to grow by selling more units compared to last year.
Hero and Honda: Leaders, Yet Declining
Sales Figures
Hero MotoCorp continued to be the king of two-wheeler sales in India, selling 385,988 units in February 2025. However, this represented a 6.80% decrease from the 414,151 units sold in February 2024. Honda was closely behind with sales of 328,502 units, marking a 7.79% decline from 356,245 units during the same month last year. The decline in sales for both Hero and Honda can largely be attributed to decreased demand in rural areas and higher financing costs for consumers.

Brands That Defied the Trend
TVS and Suzuki Perform Well
Despite the overall decline, TVS Motor Company posted a modest growth of 1.96%, achieving sales of 253,499 units. This is an increase from the 248,621 units sold in February 2024. Similarly, Suzuki saw a 4.30% growth, moving 76,673 units compared to 73,514 units a year earlier. Royal Enfield also contributed to the positive side with a 6.33% increase, selling 70,130 units, owing to the strong demand for its latest models.
Electric Two-Wheelers: A Mixed Bag
Ather’s Growth and Ola’s Decline
Turning to electric two-wheelers, Ather Energy was a standout performer. It experienced substantial growth, with a 29.80% rise, selling 11,807 units compared to previous months. However, not all companies fared well. Ola Electric faced a significant decline, selling just 8,647 units, a drop of 74.61% from 34,063 units in February 2024. This sharp decrease may be linked to reductions in government subsidies and ongoing supply chain issues.
Other Brands’ Performance
Bajaj Auto experienced a 10.45% decline in sales, with 153,631 units sold compared to 171,561 units the previous year. Yamaha’s sales also took a hit, sinking by 13.47% to 46,095 units. Piaggio didn’t fare any better, experiencing a decline of 21.41% with only 2,302 units sold.
The Bigger Picture in the Two-Wheeler Market
Overall, the slowdown in the Indian two-wheeler market reflects weak consumer confidence and growing economic challenges. Rising costs and difficulties in financing have made buyers more cautious. While traditional giants like Hero and Honda faced a downward trend, the likes of TVS, Suzuki, and Ather were able to secure positive sales.
Key Drivers of Change
- Rural Demand: The decline in rural areas has significantly impacted sales figures for many brands.
- Financing Costs: Higher costs of financing are also a barrier for potential buyers.
- Product Range Expansion: Many manufacturers plan to expand their product lines and introduce new models to attract more customers.
This landscape presents challenges and opportunities alike. As companies prepare to navigate these market fluctuations, they are likely to focus heavily on innovation and customer engagement to boost sales in the upcoming months. The 2024 Hero Splendor, with its updated features including a disc brake, represents an effort by manufacturers to cater to evolving customer expectations.
