A Mercedes Unimog Is Coming to Gran Turismo 7 This Week

As February comes to an end, fans of the racing game Gran Turismo 7 are eagerly anticipating a much-anticipated update. Kaz Yamauchi, the series’ producer, recently shared a teaser featuring three shadowy figures. While two of these silhouettes seem to be recognizable vehicles from the Gran Turismo universe, the one at the back caught everyone’s attention as it looks like a Daimler Unimog.
The Unimog is a well-known German truck that has been used for various purposes and is still being produced today. The specific model expected in Gran Turismo is the Unimog 411, which was manufactured by Daimler from 1956 to 1974. During that time, almost 40,000 units were made, offering different styles and sizes to suit various jobs. “Unimog” stands for “UNIversal-MOtor-Gerät,” a German term that means universal motor tool or machine. The teaser suggests that this version has a tray bed and a more rounded cab, unlike some other models known for their flat, boxy designs. Players can likely find it in the Hagerty-branded legendary car dealership in the game, probably priced at a reasonable rate, similar to the Willys Jeep, which costs around 30,000 credits.
The Unimog will certainly be larger than the Willys Jeep and possibly any vehicle previously featured in Gran Turismo. While GT7 includes some modern pickup trucks and vans, the Unimog stands out in its own league. It offers about 30 horsepower from a 1.7-liter diesel engine. While this may not seem speedy, players can customize it with various in-game engine swaps to enhance its performance.
In addition to the Unimog, the update will also introduce two other exciting vehicles that may thrill fans. First up is the Peugeot 205 GTI, a car that is considered one of Europe’s iconic hot hatches, right alongside models from Volkswagen. While the Peugeot 205 is frequently represented in video games, it often appears in its rally or race configurations rather than the standard GTI version. The Game already includes the Group B variant with special features, so having the classic GTI in the game is a pleasant surprise for fans who appreciate its history.
The final car in this update is the BMW Z4, which has been a topic of debate in automotive design circles ever since its release in the 2000s. If this is the same version included in the game, it will be the original 2003 model equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine. The Z4 has aged well over the years, especially the pre-facelift models, which feature unique design elements. Although many players may wish for the more powerful Z4 M Coupe, the game may allow customization options to replace parts, enhancing the racing experience.
Moreover, players are left wondering what additional accessories and modifications will be available for the Unimog. Previous updates have surprised players with unique customization options, like the “EF” Civic Si, which offered an unexpected front-end accessory. Such surprising details add charm to the Gran Turismo series, keeping the gameplay fresh and engaging. The update is expected to be available on Thursday, February 27.
