Apple Set to Overhaul Software for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Apple is preparing for a significant redesign of its operating systems, which could be among the most substantial changes seen in years. Scheduled to be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), expected in June 2025, these updates aim to create a more unified experience across its various platforms, making transitions between devices more seamless for users.
According to reports from Bloomberg, these changes will include a complete refresh of icons, menus, applications, windows, and system buttons. The redesign is inspired by visionOS, the operating system powering Apple’s Vision Pro headset. The upcoming versions are called “Luck” for iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 and “Cheer” for macOS 16. This will be the most significant update to the Mac operating system since the introduction of Big Sur in 2020, and for iOS, it marks a major change since iOS 7 was launched.
The anticipated alterations go beyond mere visual updates. While the user interface is expected to evolve considerably, Apple has clarified that it won’t be merging its platforms as some have speculated. Despite some ongoing discussions about closer integration of iPad and Mac functionalities, Apple appears committed to keeping these devices distinct, encouraging consumers to use both types of products.
The report revealed that Apple feels a sense of urgency to revitalize its sales, which experienced substantial growth during 2021 but have since declined. The redesign could serve as a strategy to rekindle some of that momentum. Even so, early signs suggest that Apple may already be experiencing a recovery in sales.
Although the aesthetic changes might be long overdue, they could also serve to divert attention from less favorable developments within Apple. Recently, the company announced that it would not release its upcoming, personalized Siri feature with the iOS 18.4 update. It remains to be seen if this improved virtual assistant will debut with iOS 19 or be postponed further.
Anticipation continues to build around the WWDC 2025, where Apple is expected to showcase its innovative designs and functionalities. As the date approaches, Apple enthusiasts and tech analysts alike are keen to see how the proposed changes will enhance user experiences and adapt the company’s technology to meet the evolving demands of modern consumers.
