Diablo 4 Season 8 Delayed by Several Weeks

Diablo 4’s Season 8 will be released a bit later than expected because Blizzard wants to ensure the game is the best it can be. Rod Fergusson, the general manager for Diablo, shared this update on social media, explaining that the development team needs extra time to work on the new season’s content. However, he kept things exciting by hinting that an “old ‘friend'” will be making a comeback in the game.
In his message, Fergusson mentioned, “In the spirit of serving the game, not the plan, Season 8 will take a couple of weeks longer to bake than we initially anticipated.” He reassured fans that the team is currently busy preparing some exciting updates and encouraged everyone to stay tuned for more information. The mention of an “old ‘friend'” has sparked curiosity and speculation among players about who this character might be. While Fergusson didn’t reveal any details, players have been sharing their guesses online, suggesting possible candidates like Cain, Covetous Shen, and Lyndon. Some players are also thinking it could be characters like Lorath, Tyrael, Zoltun Kulle, Eirena, or Kormac.
As for how long this delay will be, it’s still not clear, but updates are expected soon. Just earlier this month, it was reported that Diablo 4’s next big expansion won’t be available until 2026. This marks a change in the previous yearly plans for the game. During a panel event at DICE, Fergusson explained, “In 2025, or just before Season 8, we will have a 2025 roadmap for Diablo 4.” However, the second expansion won’t be included in that roadmap since it is set to release in 2026. Fergusson assured players they would know about the future plans for the game soon.
In addition to all this, there has been much excitement about the new features and developments in the game. A recent review described Diablo 4’s new content as “a polished, bewitching upgrade,” suggesting that it could include one of the best character classes in the history of Diablo.
Overall, while players will have to wait a little longer for Season 8, there is plenty to look forward to with new updates and the return of a beloved character. Fans are eagerly waiting for more announcements and developments that will shape the future of Diablo 4.
