Enhanced Google Gemini Support Now Available in Meet and Chat for More Workspace Users

Key Information to Note

  • Google is introducing various new Gemini-driven features for its Workspace Business and Enterprise edition users.
  • The Meet platform will feature a new function called “Studio Look,” enhancing camera quality while Google Chat expands its in-app translation to more users.
  • A recent update introduced a Gemini-enabled sidebar in Gmail, allowing users to easily add events to their calendar from emails.

Google is expanding the impact of its Gemini technology across its Workspace applications, including enhancements aimed at improving communication tools.

According to an announcement from Google, the latest update, which launched on March 11, focuses on users of the Business and Enterprise editions who regularly utilize applications such as Meet and Chat. Among these, Google Meet will undergo significant enhancements thanks to Gemini.

The most noteworthy feature being added to Google Meet is called “Studio Look.” This function aims to enhance the appearance of users during video calls by automatically detecting and improving their image quality. Essentially, if your appearance is blurred or unclear, Gemini’s AI will work to sharpen your image, making it clearer for other participants.

In addition to “Studio Look,” Google has highlighted other features available in Meet, such as “Studio Sound” and “Studio Lighting.” “Studio Sound” utilizes AI technology to adjust and balance your audio, ensuring that your voice is clear and free of distortions. Meanwhile, “Studio Lighting” simulates the lighting of a professional studio, enhancing the visual aspect of your video feed. Users are encouraged to consult the official support document to check compatibility requirements for these features.

Additionally, Google has reminded users about the option to generate background images for their meetings in Google Meet. This feature allows users to choose from various themes, such as a professional office, elegant living room, tropical beach, and even a sci-fi spaceship, enhancing the overall video conference experience.

Moving on to Google Chat, users can expect an update named “Translate for Me.” This feature will automatically recognize and translate over 120 languages directly in the chat for users, streamlining communication across language barriers. Furthermore, Gemini technology has been integrated into Google Drawing to facilitate the removal of background images, enhancing design flexibility.

Both of these features are now accessible to users. As for Meet, the custom backgrounds, along with studio sound and lighting capabilities, will be available starting today, with “Studio Look” set to roll out on March 18. It’s important to note that these enhancements are exclusive to Business and Enterprise editions of Google Workspace (Standard and Plus).

Recently, Google also introduced a Gemini update for Gmail that improves its interaction with Google Calendar. When important dates are mentioned within emails, users will soon see a new “add to calendar” button, allowing them to create events effortlessly. This feature marks an evolution from the AI-driven side panel that Google began testing in its Workspace last year.
