Enhanced PC Edition of GTA 5: Guide to Free Preloading and Progress Transfer

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) is getting an exciting updated version for PC, arriving on March 4. If you already have GTA 5, you can start downloading the new free upgrade right now through the Rockstar Games Launcher or Steam. This update brings many improvements, including better graphics and quicker loading times, similar to what players can enjoy on Xbox Series X|S and PS5.
For those who already own the game, the original version will now be called “GTA V Legacy.” It’s important to note that you don’t need to do anything special for this change; it will happen automatically in your game library. However, one thing to keep in mind is that you can’t play with others who are using the Legacy version, as the new Enhanced version doesn’t allow cross-play with it.
Players will also have a chance to transfer their story mode progress from GTA V Legacy to the new Enhanced version. To do this, you can simply go to the Pause Menu while playing on the Legacy version and follow the steps to upload your save. Just remember that you can only transfer your progress one time. Once you’ve done it, you won’t be able to send any progress back to the Legacy version.
When the Enhanced version launches, you’ll also be able to transfer your GTA Online character progress to the new edition, but this transfer also can only be completed once. This means that transferring your online character won’t remove your progress in the Legacy version. You’ll be able to move over things like characters, money (GTA$), levels, vehicles, properties, weapons, clothes, and any jobs you’ve created.
If you want a detailed explanation of how to transfer your story mode save, here’s what you need to do:
1. Make sure your Rockstar Games account is linked to the PC platform where you want to play.
2. While playing GTA V Legacy, go to the Pause Menu, select “Game,” and then “Upload Save Game.”
3. Choose the save file you want to move and confirm the upload.
It’s important to note that migrating saves is only possible between PC versions. You can’t transfer between PC and consoles. Also, if your account has issues like being banned or not having enough progress, you might not be able to transfer your save.
After the upload is complete, you will receive a message confirming that your save has been successfully uploaded. You can update or overwrite your save file multiple times until you download it on the Enhanced version. Keep in mind, however, that after 90 days, you may need to upload your save again if you haven’t downloaded it during that time.
Once you’ve got the Enhanced version running, you can download your story mode save by opening the game and going to the landing page or the Pause Menu to select your save file. If you have saves already stored on your PC, you might have to go to the Pause Menu to download the desired file.
After you download your save, the game will automatically load it, and you can continue from where you left off. Enjoy the new features and improved gameplay in GTA 5’s Enhanced edition!
