Ex-Metro Developers Creating 'La Quimera', a Sci-Fi Shooter Resembling Killzone, According to Leaks

Recently, some articles were published too soon, revealing information about a new game studio called ‘Reburn’. This studio has been founded by former developers from 4A Games, the makers of the popular Metro series. Reburn is currently working on a futuristic sci-fi shooter titled ‘La Quimera’. The game seems to have inspiration from the Killzone series and, although there was supposed to be an announcement trailer, it was nearly missed by swift-eyed fans.

Instead of a trailer, some screenshots were shared that portray an exciting and visually appealing first-person shooter. One image even shows a character battling against soldiers with bright orange eyes on their helmets, which brings to mind the Killzone franchise that many have not seen in a while.

The name La Quimera translates to ‘The Chimera’ in English, referring to a creature from mythology that combines parts of various animals. This association gives the game a feeling of a ‘failed experiment.’ The storyline is reportedly created by Nicolas Winding Refn, known for films like Drive and The Neon Demon. According to a Spanish publication, the game is set in a grand city in Latin America.

The images uploaded on ResetEra give a glimpse into what seems to be a stunning game. They feature huge, beast-like robot enemies, fierce battles between a resistance group and heavily armored soldiers, and hints at a rich backstory for La Quimera. The visuals suggest a world that has experienced devastation and nature reclaiming its space, pointing to post-apocalyptic themes, something familiar to the developers due to their work on the Metro series.

One screenshot shows a protagonist in armor that looks similar to characters from the Halo series or the ‘Prophet’ from Crysis. This inclusion indicates that La Quimera will only be available on PC platforms.

It is said that La Quimera is an ambitious project combining elements of Latin folklore with futuristic weapons and technology. With about 110 developers involved, many of whom have a background from 4A Games, the Metro influence is evident in the project. The game will feature a strong narrative and will allow players to choose between playing solo or teaming up with up to three others.

While there isn’t a set date for when Reburn will officially announce La Quimera, the discovery of trailers and screenshots by multiple outlets suggests that an announcement might happen soon. Game studios usually avoid sharing details like this unless they plan to make an official revelation soon.

It’s important to remember that until anything is officially confirmed, details can still change. So, while the excitement builds around La Quimera, fans will have to wait for the official word.
