Exploring the Karla-Lohgad-Pawna-Pune Circuit

Riding Experience and Route Overview

Recently, I embarked on an exhilarating journey through the scenic Karla-Lohgad-Pawna-Pune circuit. This adventure was part of my riding updates, which marked the end of the calendar year 2024. After addressing a frustrating puncture incident during my ride to Alibaug, I was eager to hit the road again.

The roads on this circuit are generally well-maintained, making for a pleasant riding experience. However, it’s important to be cautious. Many of the turns on this route are quite steep, requiring riders to be attentive not just to their own maneuvers but also to the actions of other vehicles. A slip by another rider can affect your stability, especially during tight curves, which could lead to a loss of momentum.

Challenges on the Route

During my ride, I encountered various challenges, including steep drops where the road was rough. At one point, I observed a vehicle struggling near a particularly steep curve while descending towards Dudhiware Khind. Such moments reminded me that while the road may be welcoming, it can quickly turn challenging if one is not vigilant.

Stopping at Scenic Points

Throughout my trip, I took time to appreciate the stunning scenery. One standout moment was at Malvali crossing, where I paused to soak in the surroundings. After tackling several hairpin curves, I was delighted to see the breathtaking backdrop of Lohgad Fort appearing majestically against the skyline.

Attempting the Rajmachi Trail

Last weekend, I had aspirations of reaching Rajmachi, aiming to conquer the trail leading to its base. However, after approximately 4 kilometers, I decided to turn back. The total distance to Rajmachi is around 10 kilometers, but the mix of excitement and trepidation made me reconsider my path.

Going solo added to my hesitation, as I battled fears of falling or encountering issues during the ride. My previous attempts at similar trails indicated that my courage was wavering. Although my Multistrada motorcycle is capable of tackling rough terrains, the fear of losing traction on loose stones ultimately led me to retreat.

Preparing for Tougher Trails

Recognizing my limitations is an essential part of being a responsible rider. I’ve resolved to enroll in a light dirt and loose rock course to boost my confidence when riding on challenging terrains. This step is particularly important for me, considering my stature at 168 cm. Gaining skills in such situations will not only enhance my riding capabilities but also prepare me for future adventures with greater assurance.

The Journey Back

During my return from Rajmachi, I stopped at a lovely vantage point that allowed me to admire the twin peaks known as Shrivardhan and Manaranjan. The view was a consolation for my earlier retreat from the trail, offering a serene moment to reflect on my journey. The chilly wind at this altitude provided a brisk escape from the warmer surroundings, with the temperature of my motorcycle coolant dropping significantly in just a few minutes.

Even the railway line could be spotted bustling through the landscape, a delightful surprise while resting at the elevated viewpoint. Moments like these make every ride valuable, regardless of what you accomplished.

Safety and Community

As I wrap up my riding adventures for the year, I encourage all riders to prioritize safety. Sharing experiences with fellow enthusiasts is invaluable, and I’m grateful for the insights and inspiration gained from the riding community.

The new year marks not just a turning of the calendar but also a reminder to tackle new challenges responsibly and safely. Whether embarking on another circuit ride or venturing into tougher trails, the spirit of adventure should always pair with caution and preparedness.

Conclusion

In summary, my rides through the Karla-Lohgad-Pawna-Pune circuit and my hesitant journey towards Rajmachi have been enlightening experiences. They served to remind me of the beauty of nature, the thrill of riding, and the importance of continuous learning and community engagement.

As we move into a new year, let’s hold onto the excitement of exploration while embracing a culture of safety and respect for the roads and trails we cherish. Here’s to more adventures ahead and wishing everyone happy and safe riding in the coming year!
