Google Discontinues Sales of Chromecast with Google TV

When the original Google Chromecast was released, it changed how we could watch TV. It allowed anyone with a TV that had an HDMI port to easily stream videos and music from their smartphones, tablets, or computers. However, times are changing, and it seems that the era of Chromecast as we knew it is coming to an end. According to a report from a tech website, Google has stopped selling the Chromecast with Google TV accessory.
This news isn’t completely surprising. Back in 2024, Google had already announced that they would keep selling this device until all available units were sold out. Now, reports indicate that both the 2020 4K model and the 2022 HD model are no longer available on the Google Store. While you might still find them from other sellers or retailers, getting one officially from Google is no longer an option.
It’s interesting to think about how long Google kept the Chromecast in circulation. When it first came out, smart TVs were not common, so people found the Chromecast very useful. Nowadays, however, most TVs come with built-in smart features that allow for streaming, making devices like the Chromecast less necessary.
In light of these changes, Google has shifted its approach. Last year, they introduced a new device called the Google TV Streamer, marking the next generation of their Chromecast line. This new device does so much more than just help you watch movies or shows. Besides streaming, it acts as a central hub for managing various smart home devices, adding more value for users.
Although the new Google TV Streamer is roughly twice the price of previous Chromecast models, the expanded features might make it a worthwhile investment for some users. It’s not just about watching your favorite shows anymore; it’s about creating a more connected and smarter home environment.
