Google Drive Introduces Access to Video Transcripts for Users

Google Drive is introducing an exciting new feature that allows users to search through video transcripts. This new option follows last year’s launch of automatically generated captions for videos. Starting from this Monday, if you use Google Drive, you will be able to view and search transcripts of your videos easily.
This feature is very useful because it eliminates the need for you to upload your video’s audio for transcription to a service like Otter. Instead, you can get everything you need directly within Google Drive itself.
When you watch a video that has this feature, the transcript will be shown in a sidebar next to the video player. As you watch the video, the text that is currently being spoken will be highlighted. This makes it much easier to find specific sections in a video. If you’re looking for a particular moment or want to follow along with what is being discussed, this feature provides a helpful way to do that.
To use this new video transcript feature, you need to first open a video that has captions in Google Drive. Once the video is playing, click on the gear icon located in the bottom right corner to access the video settings. From there, you can select the “Transcript” option to view the transcript.
It’s important to remember that this feature only works if your video has captions. You can check if your video has captions by looking for the “CC” button at the bottom-right corner of the video player. If this button is active, it means that captions are available for that video.
If your video does not have captions yet, you can easily add them. Just right-click on the video and choose the “Manage caption tracks” option. You’ll find a button labeled “generate automatic captions,” which you can click to create captions for your video.
This new capability will be available to all Google Workspace customers, individuals with Google Workspace subscriptions, and users with personal Google accounts in the coming weeks. It promises to make accessing and interacting with your video content much simpler and more efficient. Overall, the searchable video transcripts feature is a great addition to Google Drive, making it easier for users to engage with their video content.
