iPhone users are set to experience enhanced customization options with the upcoming iOS 18 update.
The iOS 18 update will be available for download starting September 16, offering new features like lock and home screen customization, along with several other updates for Apple devices.
“Messages is central to how we communicate with the most important people in our lives,” said Ronak Shah, Director of Internet Technologies and Product Marketing at Apple. “With iOS 18, we’re introducing exciting new ways to express yourself and stay connected.”
iOS 18 Release Date and Availability
iPhone users can begin downloading iOS 18 on Monday, September 16, at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, as announced by Apple.
Compatible iPhone Models
The update will be free for users with iPhone Xs or newer models.
New iOS 18 Features
iOS 18 brings several home screen customization options, including:
- Flexibility to position app icons and widgets anywhere on the home screen grid
- Dark mode, now with app icon color adjustments
- The ability to change the home screen’s tint color
Additionally, users can:
- Schedule iMessage sends
- Use emoji tapbacks and text effects for enhanced message responses
The update also introduces Rich Communication Services (RCS), improving text messaging between iPhone and Android devices.
Further enhancements will arrive with the release of iOS 18.1, introducing Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence Release Date
While iOS 18 is available now, Apple Intelligence is set to launch with iOS 18.1 next month. This update will bring new AI features, which Apple plans to promote as part of a safe AI experience within its ecosystem.
