Despite rumors of a radical camera redesign for the upcoming iPhone 17 series, a new leak suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro models will stick with the existing camera layout. However, significant design changes are still anticipated in other areas.
A tipster known as “Moments Digital” claims that while the camera arrangement on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will remain familiar, the overall rear design will undergo substantial modifications. The specifics of these changes remain unclear, but it seems the camera island itself will not be the focus of the redesign.
This contradicts earlier rumors that hinted at a Google Pixel-like horizontal camera bar for the iPhone 17 series, a significant departure from the current design. Leaked images even showed a pill-shaped cutout reminiscent of the Pixel 9, supposedly housing the camera module.
Other potential design changes for the iPhone 17 Pro models include a shift from a titanium frame to an aluminum one, larger camera bumps, and the possible integration of the volume and Action buttons into a single key. There are also rumors of a new, unspecified button being introduced.
Internally, the iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to be powered by Apple’s A19 Pro chip with 12GB of RAM, while the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air could feature an A18 or A19 chip with 8GB of RAM. All four models are rumored to sport 24-megapixel front-facing cameras, with the iPhone 17 Air potentially featuring a single 48-megapixel rear camera. LTPO displays sourced from Samsung and LG are also anticipated across the lineup.
While the camera layout might not see a radical overhaul, it appears that Apple is still planning significant design changes for the iPhone 17 series. As we get closer to the expected September announcement, more concrete details about the new iPhones are likely to emerge.
