Kia Introduces EV4 and Concept EV2: Production to Start in 2025
At the 2025 Kia World EV Day event in Tarragona, Spain, Kia showcased two exciting new electric vehicles (EVs): the EV4 and the Concept EV2. These models are designed to strengthen Kia’s presence in the growing electric vehicle market. Let’s dive into the key features and specifications of these two innovative cars.
Design Features of the Kia EV4
The Kia EV4 is aimed at everyday drivers and comes in two body styles: sedan and hatchback. This versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of customers. The EV4 features a modern design in line with Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy, blending style with usability. This makes the car visually appealing while still being functional for daily use.
Performance and Battery Capabilities
The EV4 offers two battery options: a standard range battery (58.3 kWh) and a long-range battery (81.4 kWh). For the sedan version, the standard range is 430 km, while the long-range version can travel up to 630 km on a single charge. In the hatchback version, the standard range is approximately 410 km, and the long-range version provides a range of 590 km. Acceleration is impressive as well, with the standard model reaching 100 km/hr in just 7.4 seconds and the long-range version doing the same in 7.7 seconds, both capable of hitting top speeds of 170 km/hr.
Charging Features
The EV4 supports quick DC charging, allowing its battery to go from 10% to 80% in roughly 31 minutes. It comes with a standard 11 kW onboard charger, making it practical for daily charging needs. Moreover, it provides additional features such as V2L (Vehicle-To-Load) at 3.6A, enabling you to power other devices, and V2G (Vehicle-To-Grid) at 10A, allowing energy to flow back to the grid.
Convenient Features
The Kia EV4 is equipped with advanced technology, including a dual-screen setup with two 12.3-inch displays and a 5.3-inch multimedia driver display. Unique features include integrated apps like YouTube and Netflix and an innovative Kia AI Assistant. Furthermore, it supports over-the-air updates via user mobile devices, an i-Pedal 3.0 system for smooth regenerative braking, and much more.
Safety Features
When it comes to safety, the EV4 is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). This includes features such as Driver Attention Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, Lane Following Assist 2, and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist. The Remote Parking Assist Entry makes parking easier for drivers. Additionally, the EV4 is designed to meet high safety standards, aiming for 5-star ratings in Euro NCAP and US NCAP safety tests, as well as being recognized as a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Overview of the Kia Concept EV2
The Kia Concept EV2 represents a B-segment SUV positioned for urban explorers. This model integrates seamlessly into the Kia EV family, featuring distinguishing elements like vertical DRLs and the Kia Star Map signature lighting. The rear-hinged doors enhance accessibility, making it easier for passengers to hop in and out during city adventures.
Innovative Interior Design
The interior of the Concept EV2 emphasizes sustainability and style. It features flexible seating arrangements and an eye-catching design. The customizable audio experience includes removable triangular speakers and pop-up luggage dividers. Moreover, it has a wireless charging station and power outlets, making it highly functional for users.
Unique Interior Features
The Concept EV2 also includes unique messaging lighting, allowing occupants to send text messages to outside road users through the vehicle’s windows. The absence of a central pillar creates an open and airy feeling for everyone inside, making it a pleasant space to be in.
Production and Market Launch
The Kia EV4 sedan will be manufactured at the Kia Autoland Gwangmyeong EVO Plant in South Korea, while the hatchback version is set to be produced in Slovakia to cater to the European market. Production will kick off in mid-March 2025 for the sedan and in the latter half of 2025 for the hatchback. The EV4 is expected to make its North American debut in the coming year, and it will also have a sportier GT-Design variant with larger 19-inch wheels. The Concept EV2 is slated for launch in 2026, targeting various markets including Europe.
The exciting unveilings of Kia’s EV4 and Concept EV2 show the brand’s commitment to future electric mobility, combining cutting-edge technology with practical design to meet the needs of modern drivers.
