Kia PV5 Unveiled at World EV Day: A New Electric Van
Kia has recently introduced the Kia PV5 electric van during World EV Day. This innovative vehicle is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s eS platform, which sets it up for use as both a passenger vehicle and a commercial van. Design and Styling
The Kia PV5 embodies the signature styling of the Kia brand. It features distinct vertical daytime running lights (DRLs) and additional lights positioned in the lower bumper. Customers can choose from various configurations, including configurations for passengers, cargo, and even a chassis cab for custom builds. This flexibility makes the PV5 appealing to a wide range of potential buyers.
While the passenger and cargo versions of the PV5 share a similar overall shape, there are notable differences in design. The Passenger model boasts a sleek look with large black-accented windows and sporty black trims along the side panels and wheel arches. In contrast, the Cargo variant prioritizes practicality over aesthetics, offering a straightforward, boxy look that emphasizes functionality. Instead of the rear tailgate found on the passenger version, the cargo variant features dual side-opening doors, making loading and unloading much more convenient.
Battery Performance and Range
When it comes to battery options, the Kia PV5 presents three choices: a 43.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and two nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) batteries that are 51.5 kWh and 71.2 kWh, respectively. The largest battery installed in the passenger model delivers an impressive driving range of up to 400 kilometers on a single charge.
The PV5 is equipped with front-mounted motors that can produce 161 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque. Although more detailed information about the battery’s specifications is still to come, it is noteworthy that the van supports fast DC charging, allowing the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.
Kia’s e-GMP Platform
The PV5 is built on Kia’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (e-GMP), adapted specifically for commercial use. This updated version of the e-GMP aims to reduce costs by standardizing essential components like battery packs and electric motors, ultimately enhancing efficiency for manufacturers and users alike.
Practicality and Configurations
The practicality of the Kia PV5 is one of its standout features. The Cargo variant is available in three different configurations: Standard, Long Roof, and High Roof. It offers a maximum cargo capacity of 5,100 liters, making it suitable for various transport needs. The Standard and Long Roof variants come with two front seats as standard and an optional third seat for added flexibility.
Additionally, customers can opt for an L-track mounting configuration to enhance cargo versatility, allowing for custom arrangements. The Chassis Cab model is based on the Cargo variant but is delivered in an unfinished platform. This gives businesses the flexibility to customize the van for specific applications, such as creating flatbed trucks or refrigerated delivery vehicles.
Interior Features
Inside, the Kia PV5 features a minimalist design. It comes with a 7-inch instrument cluster and a large 12.9-inch infotainment screen powered by Android Automotive OS. To maximize the use of space, the vehicle also features a vertically oriented center console and a two-spoke steering wheel paired with a column-mounted transmission lever. This design enhances the interior’s functionality while providing a modern look.
