Mahindra has recently updated its policy regarding the chargers for its new electric SUVs, namely the BE 6 and XEV 9e. This change allows customers the choice to opt out of purchasing a charger provided by the company, which was originally a required item. This flexibility is contingent on meeting specific criteria, encouraging adaptability among potential buyers.
For those who do not meet these conditions, Mahindra still offers two types of AC chargers. The first option is a 7.2kW charger, which is priced at ₹50,000. The second option is an 11.2kW charger, costing ₹75,000. Unless buyers qualify to skip the charger, they will need to choose one of these two models to accompany their new electric vehicles.
### Mahindra BE 6
The Mahindra BE 6 is sold in several variants. The top model, known as Pack Three, is equipped with a more powerful 79kWh battery pack. When using the 11kW charger, this variant can be fully charged in about eight hours. However, if one opts for the 7.2kW charger, it will take approximately 11.7 hours to reach a full charge.
The lower variants, from Pack One to Pack Three Select, utilize a smaller 59kWh battery pack. Charging these versions takes around six hours with the 11kW charger, while using the 7.2kW charger extends the time to about 8.7 hours.
### Mahindra XEV 9e
The Mahindra XEV 9e offers similar battery options and charging capabilities as the BE 6, meaning the charging times remain comparable for both the 79kWh and 59kWh battery versions. However, it’s important to note that the XEV 9e does not have a variant equivalent to the Pack One Above that is available for the BE 6 model.
### Launch and Deliveries
Mahindra plans to start deliveries of these electric SUVs around mid-March. The revised charger policy has been created to offer customers more choices, while still aiming to establish an effective charging infrastructure for those who prefer the convenience of company-supplied chargers. This strategy reflects Mahindra’s commitment to making electric vehicle ownership more accessible and convenient, catering to the diverse needs of its customer base.
By revising the charger policy, Mahindra is positioning itself more favorably in the competitive electric vehicle market, allowing buyers to make more personalized decisions regarding their EV charging solutions. Whether opting for company-supplied equipment or external alternatives, customers can choose the path that best suits their needs as they transition to electric mobility.
