NetEase Games’ free-to-play superhero shooter, Marvel Rivals, has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing 20 million players in just 11 days since its launch. The Overwatch-inspired title, which debuted on December 6th across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X, has quickly become a sensation thanks to its dynamic gameplay and extensive roster of iconic Marvel characters.
The developer announced the milestone on social media, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support from the gaming community. To celebrate this achievement, NetEase is offering players a commemorative in-game spray featuring the milestone number. This exclusive item can be claimed by logging in between December 20th and January 10th.
This impressive player count follows the game’s earlier success of reaching 10 million players within 72 hours of launch. The combined player base across PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store) and consoles highlights the widespread appeal of Marvel Rivals.
NetEase is also gearing up for a festive content update to mark the holiday season. The Winter Celebration update will introduce special holiday-themed costumes, new game modes, and other surprises. A new mode called “Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival” and a winter greeting card with gifts from Jeff the Land Shark are among the additions players can look forward to. The Winter Celebration update is set to begin rolling out on December 19th.
Marvel Rivals offers players fast-paced 6v6 team-based battles across various maps, drawing inspiration from popular hero shooters like Overwatch. The game boasts a diverse roster of 33 Marvel Comics characters, including fan favorites such as Spider-Man, Thor, Iron Man, Black Panther, Captain America, and many more.
With its impressive early success and ongoing content updates, Marvel Rivals is poised to become a major contender in the competitive landscape of free-to-play hero shooters.
