Monster Hunter Wilds: Anticipated Graphics and Framerate Issues Before February 28 Launch

One of the most eagerly awaited games of 2025 is Monster Hunter Wilds, but it seems to be disappointing many gamers on consoles. According to experts, both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles are facing issues with image quality and performance. This game, developed by Capcom, is the latest installment in the well-loved Monster Hunter series and follows the success of Monster Hunter: World, which holds the record as Capcom’s best-selling game ever. As a result, there were great expectations for this new release.
A recent technical review by Digital Foundry analyzed how the game performs on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, examining the three available display modes and how these affect both resolution and overall performance. Out of these modes, only the Resolution mode manages to deliver gameplay at 60 frames per second (FPS). This mode targets a resolution of 900p, but during demanding gameplay sections, it can drop down to as low as 720p and can scale up to 1080p when the action is less intense. Unfortunately, these lower resolutions lead to blurrier visuals and less detailed graphics, including simpler reflections and reduced levels of detail in the environment.
Additionally, the game uses AMD’s FSR 1 technology for upscaling the visuals to 4K. However, without any other enhancements, the final image quality does not improve significantly, and in some cases, it looks even worse.
The mode that performs the poorest shows the most significant drop in visual quality, featuring a lack of screen space reflections and lower texture quality. This mode is also plagued by frequent drops in frame rates that fall below 30 FPS, which severely affects the gaming experience.
Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available for pre-order and is set to launch on February 28, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Capcom has plans for additional content to be released after the game’s launch. The first major update is scheduled for spring 2025 and will introduce the water monster Mizutsune to the game’s Forbidden Lands, along with various Event Quests and other features. Another new monster is planned for summer 2025, with even more surprises in store for players.
For those who are unfamiliar, Monster Hunter is a series of action role-playing games created by Capcom, where players take on the role of hunters searching for massive monsters in various settings.
In summary, while there is a lot of excitement surrounding Monster Hunter Wilds, early technical reviews are pointing out several flaws that could hinder the gameplay experience on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. With the release date set for February 2025, fans are hoping that upcoming updates can improve the game’s performance and overall quality.
