Morgan, the well-regarded British sports car manufacturer, has introduced its latest top-tier model, the Supersport. This new vehicle carries forward the distinguished legacy of Morgan, known for harmoniously blending timeless aesthetics with contemporary technology.
The Supersport showcases a striking minimalist design, stepping in as the successor to the Plus Six, which was discontinued last year. Initial orders for this exciting new addition are now open in the U.K., where the starting price is set at 85,000 British pounds, equivalent to roughly $110,000. There is currently no official word on whether the Supersport will reach U.S. shores. However, considering the recent availability of the Plus Four in the United States, there is hope that the Supersport might also make its debut there.
Constructed on an updated version of Morgan’s CX-Generation platform — the CXV platform — the Supersport enhances its predecessor’s framework. This revised platform retains the lightweight bonded aluminum body while making significant strides in structural integrity, increasing torsional rigidity by 10%, boosting the stiffness of suspension mounting points by 100%, and improving steering response by 13%. These upgrades contribute to a more dynamic driving experience while maintaining the classic character Morgan cars are celebrated for.
All variants of the Supersport are designed as open-top vehicles, featuring a versatile roof system that allows owners to easily switch between a traditional convertible soft top and a removable hardtop. Additionally, there is an option for a carbon-composite hardtop that aims to further enhance the car’s structural rigidity. Although slightly heavier than the Plus Six, the Supersport remains impressively light, weighing just under 2,580 pounds.
The powertrain of the Supersport is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine sourced from BMW, producing 335 horsepower. This engine is matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission, familiar to BMW enthusiasts, that exclusively drives the rear wheels. This combination allows the Supersport to achieve a thrilling 0-62 mph acceleration time of 3.9 seconds, with a top speed reaching 166 mph. The car rides on distinguished 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels, fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires. An optional limited-slip differential is also available for those looking for enhanced traction.
Despite its homage to classic design principles, the Supersport is equipped with an array of modern technology to enhance convenience and performance. Interior features include a wireless charging pad, a sophisticated Sennheiser audio system, and a driver’s digital display that is paired with traditional analog gauges, paying respect to Morgan’s heritage. In line with the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, wood accents are thoughtfully incorporated into the aluminum framework of the car, adding a touch of luxury.
Production of the Supersport takes place in Morgan’s traditional facility located in Malvern, U.K., ensuring that every vehicle meets the high-quality standards associated with the brand. With the combination of advanced engineering, innovative features, and the unmistakable charm of Morgan’s historical designs, the Supersport stands as a testament to the brand’s dedication to excellence in the world of sports cars.
