New Entry in the Katamari Damacy Series, Rolling Live, Unveiled After Eight Years

A new entry in the beloved Katamari Damacy series is coming soon, and this time it will be exclusively available on Apple Arcade. Titled “Katamari Damacy Rolling Live,” this upcoming game marks the first original installment in the franchise in nearly eight years, and it is set to launch on April 3rd. Players can once again enjoy the whimsical experience of rolling the Katamari to collect various items in their quest to satisfy the King of All Cosmos.
The gameplay in “Katamari Damacy Rolling Live” promises to be as unique and engaging as previous titles. Players will be encouraged to “roll, stick, and grow” their Katamari while interacting with the game’s vibrant world. As they progress, players will be able to contribute to the King’s “live stream,” which adds a modern twist to the classic formula. The game is expected to deliver a delightful soundtrack that complements its enchanting visuals.
Over the years, the Katamari Damacy series has evolved, with several titles added to its roster. For instance, mobile games like “Katamari Damacy Mobile 2” (2012), “Tap My Katamari” (2016), and “Amazing Katamari Damacy” (2017) were released on iOS devices. More recently, the franchise saw a remake with “Katamari Damacy Reroll,” which was launched in 2018 for the Nintendo Switch and PC, followed by releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia in 2020. The latest sequel, “We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie,” debuted in 2023, bringing updated graphics and gameplay to both PC and console gamers.
The original “Katamari Damacy” made its debut in 2004 on the PlayStation 2, quickly becoming a cult classic due to its quirky game mechanics and charming art style. Players maneuver a sticky ball that collects objects from the environment, causing it to grow larger as they progress through various levels.
In addition to “Katamari Damacy Rolling Live,” Apple Arcade is set to welcome other titles on the same day, including “Space Invaders Infinity Gene Evolve,” which continues Taito’s iconic shooting series. This new content follows the release of the original “Space Invaders Infinity Gene” on iOS in 2009. Other games joining the Apple Arcade lineup include the puzzle game “puffies,” Atari’s classic “RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic+,” the virtual board game “The Game of Life 2+,” and “Sesame Street Mecha Builders+.”
Keita Takahashi, the creative mind behind the Katamari series, has recently announced a new project called “To a T.” This title, developed in partnership with Annapurna, was showcased at the publisher’s latest event. It ventures into unique themes, including disability, as it tells the story of a young boy stuck in a T-shape.
With its rich history and a fresh installment on the horizon, the Katamari Damacy series continues to enchant fans with its distinctive style and enjoyable gameplay. The upcoming release of “Rolling Live” adds to the anticipation surrounding this quirky universe.
