Playing with friends in Monster Hunter Wilds can be a thrilling experience, but the game’s multiplayer options might look complicated at first. Many players want to know the easiest way to team up with their friends for quests or exploration, as well as how to join random players to enjoy the game without waiting for others to log in.
This guide simplifies the process, helping you understand different ways to enjoy Monster Hunter Wilds with friends through Link Parties, Environment Link, or SOS Flares.
How to Team Up with Friends Using Link Party
Creating a Link Party is the simplest method if you want to take on multiple quests with up to four friends. You can do this regardless of whether you are in a public or a private lobby. The Link Party feature is versatile, allowing you to connect with friends even in Online Single Player mode.
Here’s how you can set up a Link Party:
- Open the menu screen.
- Go to the “Communication” tab, marked with a speech bubble icon.
- Select “Link Party.”
- Choose “Invite to Link Party” and select your friends.
You can search for them using their Hunter ID, which works across all platforms. To find your Hunter ID, go to the “Info” tab, then “Hunter Profile,” and toggle the “Online ID”. Once your friends are in your party, you can send them a friend request to make future invites easier. - If someone invites you to a Link Party, select “Invitation List” and accept the invite.
- Once a quest is posted, it will automatically appear for you to join when ready.
Link Parties provide more than just a way to group up. They offer dedicated voice and text chat within your group, so you can communicate effectively while on hunts. Additionally, after completing a quest, you can stay linked with friends to tackle another quest, although you can opt-out if you wish to switch activities. However, note that you won’t see each other in-game outside of quests since you are still in your own lobbies.
Using Environment Link to See Friends in Multiplayer
While Link Parties allow you to team up for quests, they do not let you see each other in the game world. This is where Environment Link comes in—this feature enables you and your friends to share the same game world and explore together. This is particularly useful for avoiding unexpected encounters with tougher monsters your friends might have already unlocked.
To join via Environment Link, the host must:
- Invite friends to their Link Party, as described earlier.
- Open the menu screen.
- Go to the “Communication” tab.
- Select “Link Party.”
- Select “Invite All to Environment Link.”
Keep in mind that you might not see the “Invite All to Environment Link” option if certain story events are happening. If that’s the case, consider progressing through the story or ask a friend to host.
Additionally, when in Environment Link, you generally cannot post quests through Alma or the Quest Counter. If you encounter this issue, switching back to a regular Link Party may be your best option.
Enhancing Multiplayer Experience with SOS Flares
If you want to team up with random players for specific monsters without the hassle of public lobbies, SOS Flares are a great option. Other players can create SOS Flares when they need help on a hunt, and you can join them.
Here’s how to join via SOS Flares:
- Enter your tent.
- Navigate to the “Quest Menu” option.
- Select “Post/Join Quest.”
- Scroll to “SOS Flare Quests.”
- Fill in the information if you wish to assist with a specific hunt.
- Hit “SOS Flare Search.”
- A list of available flares will appear. Choose any that interest you.
