Recent Updates on My Mahindra Scorpio N: Fuel Efficiency, Detailing, and More.

I’ve managed to adjust to my car’s low fuel efficiency since I anticipated my driving would be limited. In the last nine months, I have not even hit 3,000 kilometers.
Recently, a fellow car enthusiast shared their thoughts with the community regarding fuel efficiency. They found it challenging to achieve more than 7-8 kilometers per liter when driving in medium traffic conditions in Mumbai. In heavy traffic, especially during rush hour on the busy Western Express Highway, their fuel consumption could drop to an alarming 2-3 kilometers per liter. They recall one evening when they were stuck in traffic with very little fuel left. The Distance to Empty (DTE) indicator was fluctuating wildly between 35 and 55 kilometers, giving them a firsthand experience of “range anxiety.”
However, they believe that the car’s poor fuel efficiency is due to the tuning of the mStallion engine. According to Mahindra engineers in interviews and podcasts, the mStallion is designed to be very efficient within its class. It’s tuned to behave somewhat like a diesel engine, delivering a lot of torque even at low RPMs. While this tuning makes the car powerful and high-performing, it also leads to higher fuel consumption.
Within the last nine months, I have been living with this engine tuning. As I mentioned earlier, my driving has been minimal, and I have only covered about 3,000 kilometers. Interestingly, my other vehicle, a Figo used for quick city trips, has covered a similar distance in that timeframe.
On a different note, I recently decided to take my car for detailing and ceramic coating after noticing a few scratches on the body. I originally reached out to a service called Detailing Dons last summer when I was thinking about either getting a ceramic coating or paint protection film (PPF). I opted for the ceramic coating because I believed it offered better value for my needs. I wanted protection from UV rays, a barrier against bird droppings, and easier cleaning. Over the months, I’ve noticed that the paint has held up well, and I’m unsure whether it’s due to the ceramic coating or the good quality paint used by Mahindra.
An official review from Team-BHP mentions that Mahindra’s paint quality is quite good, noting that they use a double-layered clear coat that gives their cars a wet finish. I’ve also received positive feedback from the detailing team regarding the paint quality of my vehicle. They charged me around 24,000 for the ceramic coating and promised a maintenance coat afterward.
Based on my pleasant experience, I scheduled an appointment with Detailing Dons for the maintenance work last week. When I arrived, they informed me that they would remove the old coating, do a paint correction, and then apply a new layer as part of my original package.
I witnessed the application of a heavy cut compound and the paint correction process during my visit. The results were impressive, with a noticeable difference before and after the work was done. I left very satisfied, thrilled with how my Scorpio looked after the new ceramic coat was applied.
In summary, I’m pleased with both the performance of my car and my experience with the detailing service. The time spent on maintaining the paint has paid off significantly and keeps my car looking great. For more insights, I recommend checking out the comments from fellow enthusiasts on the forum.
