Renault India has introduced CNG retrofit kits for its popular cars: the Kwid, Kiger, and Triber, as part of its commitment to provide more eco-friendly vehicle options. These kits have been approved by the government and are installed through a network of authorized vendors. The components used in these kits are rigorously tested to ensure they meet high performance standards, ensuring the reliability of the vehicles after installation.
The rollout of these CNG kits will start in five major states: Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Together, these states account for a significant portion of India’s market demand, approximately 65%. Renault aims to gradually expand the availability of these kits across the country, allowing more customers access to CNG options. For added peace of mind, all Renault cars fitted with these CNG kits will come with a standard warranty of three years.
The retrofit kits are designed to work with the manual transmission versions of the Kwid, Kiger, and Triber, but not with the Turbo or automatic variants. Renault has conducted thorough testing to ensure that the CNG systems will enhance fuel efficiency while still maintaining the vehicles’ power and driving experience. With these new CNG options, Renault hopes to make their vehicles even more appealing to environmentally-conscious consumers.
Pricing for the CNG retrofit kits is set at Rs. 79,500 for both the Kiger and Triber, while the Kwid’s kit is offered at Rs. 75,000. With this initiative, Renault stands out as one of the few automobile manufacturers in India to provide certified CNG retrofit solutions.
Venkatram M., the Managing Director and Country CEO of Renault India, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. He emphasized that the introduction of these government-approved CNG retrofit kits reflects Renault’s dedication to offering eco-friendly car solutions. He believes that this initiative will make Renault cars more accessible and practical for Indian customers, reinforcing the brand’s position in the market.
All three models (Kwid, Kiger, and Triber) are powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a manual transmission in the CNG configuration. After factoring in the prices of the retrofit kits, the Kwid CNG’s total cost ranges from Rs. 5.44 lakh to Rs. 6.74 lakh. The Kiger’s price varies from Rs. 6.89 lakh to Rs. 10.79 lakh, while the Triber CNG is priced between Rs. 6.89 lakh and Rs. 9.25 lakh, all based on ex-showroom prices.
Renault’s move into CNG retrofit kits showcases the brand’s proactive approach in a market that is increasingly leaning towards green technology in vehicles. By providing certified solutions that enhance the environmental sustainability of their cars, Renault is set on a course to meet the growing demand for cleaner and more cost-effective driving options in India.
