Samsung Launches 8TB SSD with 9100 PRO, Promising Twice the Speed of 990 PRO

Samsung has recently introduced its latest 9100 PRO PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD, which is the new and improved version of the 990 PRO. This upgraded drive promises a remarkable performance enhancement, claiming to boost speeds by nearly double, offering a “99% performance improvement.”
In terms of specifications, the 9100 PRO can reach impressive sequential read and write speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and 13,400 MB/s, respectively. Its performance also excels in random operations, boasting figures of 2,200K IOPS (input-output operations per second) for reads and 2,600K IOPS for writes. These high speeds are particularly beneficial for modern gaming and content creation, especially with the increasing size of game files and the advantages of features like DirectStorage.
Another notable aspect of the 9100 PRO is that it marks Samsung’s first offer of an 8TB NVMe SSD for consumers. This significant storage capacity can greatly enhance the gaming experience and provide plenty of space for demanding applications used in creative work.
Additionally, Samsung has incorporated advanced heat management technology in the design of the 9100 PRO. This is crucial since PCIe 5.0 SSDs typically generate a lot of heat during operation. To address this, the 1TB to 4TB models feature a heatsink that measures 8.8 mm in thickness, while the 8TB model is equipped with a thicker heatsink that is 11.25 mm, providing about 27.85% more thickness for better heat dissipation.
According to Samsung’s press release, this new SSD showcases cutting-edge architecture, delivering speeds that reach up to 14,800 MB/s and 13,400 MB/s. The heat management solutions also contribute to a 49% improvement in power efficiency compared to its predecessor, the 990 PRO. The introduction of the 8TB model adds significant value, making it suitable for high-performance gaming, next-generation content production, and various professional tasks.
As for pricing and availability, Samsung’s website in India lists the prices for the 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models as INR 14,999, INR 25,499, and INR 49,999, respectively. When converted, that translates to approximately $149.99, $254.99, and $499.99 in US currency, although these figures are approximate. The price for the 8TB SSD has not yet been disclosed and is expected to be revealed closer to its launch in the latter part of this year. The other models will be available starting on March 18, 2025.
In summary, the Samsung 9100 PRO SSD stands out with its incredible speed, efficiency, and storage capacity, making it an attractive option for gamers and professionals alike. With the advancements in heat management and performance capabilities, this new SSD is set to meet the needs of users who demand top-notch technology for their computing tasks.
