Sega and Rovio announce pre-registration for the upcoming party game Sonic Rumble

I may be alienating a large population of gamers right now, but it must be said; I’ve never been the biggest Sonic fan. The Mega Drive games were fine, but I would have much rather played games like Shining Force. However, I recognize that it is an iconic brand and one that will grow with Sonic Rumble.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly where Sonic stands right now as a franchise. Thanks to the movies, it’s enjoyed something of a renaissance, but the last few games have been hit and miss. Sonic

Sonic Rumble is the next multiplayer Battle Royale, in the vein of Stumble Guys and Fall Guys. Sonic Rumble will feature 32-player challenges, which will no doubt leave people struggling to name 32 characters from the series. I’m about ten years old and maybe I’ve invented two. There will also be cross-platform play between mobile devices and PC.

You’ll face your fellow competitors in fast-paced, action-packed challenges designed by the infamous Dr. Eggman. To succeed you can collect Rings and use power-ups to gain the upper hand. There will also be some running routes, because no matter what the genre, the Sonics have to go fast.

Pre-ordering Sonic Rumble will give you the chance to earn tons of bonuses. 200,000 signers will each receive 5,000 rings to spend on in-game items. Future milestones will bring a Chao sticker emote, Crystal Chao companion, a Gernet Knuckles skin, and a Movie Sonic skin based on Sonic 3. Sega and Rovio haven’t announced thresholds for the rest of these gifts, which is a pretty strange move.

Sonic Rumble is available for pre-registration on the App Store and Google Play, with a release date of February 25, 2025.
