Skoda Kylaq and Kia Syros: A Comparative Analysis of Excellence

Recently, two prominent compact SUVs have entered the Indian market: the Skoda Kylaq and the Kia Syros. Both of these vehicles aim to attract buyers who want a mix of good performance, comfort, and modern features. To help you make a decision, let’s take a closer look at how these two cars compare.
When it comes to pricing, the Skoda Kylaq Prestige AT is the most expensive option in its series, costing Rs. 14.40 lakhs (ex-showroom). It comes with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that provides 114 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the Kia Syros HTX Plus is priced higher at Rs. 16.80 lakhs (ex-showroom) and has a slightly more powerful 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, generating 118 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque, with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Both SUVs also have a range of variants with different pricing. For the Kia Syros, the prices range from Rs. 9 lakhs for the HTK Turbo to Rs. 16.8 lakhs for the HTX Plus Opt Turbo. Meanwhile, the Skoda Kylaq offers variants starting at Rs. 7.89 lakhs for the Classic model and going up to Rs. 16.64 lakhs for the Prestige AT.
Looking at their dimensions, both SUVs have the same length of 3995 mm. However, the Kia Syros is wider at 1805 mm and taller at 1680 mm, giving it a more commanding presence on the road. In comparison, the Skoda Kylaq is 1783 mm wide and stands at 1619 mm high. The Kylaq has a slightly longer wheelbase, measuring 2556 mm, compared to the Syros’s 2550 mm, which could mean a bit more space inside. Additionally, the ground clearance is similar, with the Kylaq at 189 mm and the Syros at 190 mm.
In terms of features, the Kia Syros HTX Plus shines with an array of high-end options. It boasts dual 12.3-inch screens for both infotainment and the gauge cluster, a 5-inch display for climate controls, wireless support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. It also includes ventilated seats both in the front and rear, a panoramic sunroof, and a robust safety package with a 360-degree camera and advanced driver-assist technology.
In contrast, the Skoda Kylaq Prestige AT has a slightly smaller 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system alongside an 8-inch digital driver display. It also features wireless smartphone connectivity and a 6-speaker sound system. The Kylaq comes equipped with ventilated front seats, a single-pane sunroof, and essential safety equipment like six airbags, electronic stability control, and anti-lock braking with electronic brakeforce distribution. However, it does not offer as advanced braking capabilities as the Syros, which has disc brakes on all four wheels.
So, which SUV is the better choice? The Skoda Kylaq Prestige AT and the Kia Syros HTX Plus are both excellent options in the compact SUV market. The Kylaq focuses on delivering solid performance with essential features at a competitive price, appealing to those who want a practical SUV experience. The Syros HTX Plus, however, caters to buyers looking for a more luxurious experience with added comfort features. Ultimately, it comes down to what you value more: performance or premium features, as both vehicles offer strong arguments for a spot in your driveway.
