The weather is starting to get a bit better, with the sun showing up just enough to get me excited about taking care of my skin. As flowers begin to peek out from the ground, it’s the perfect time for us to say goodbye to any lingering dry winter skin.
I’ve talked about Dr Jart+ before, which is a skincare brand from Korea. I praised it for its effectiveness in treating very dry and flaky skin, and I still stand by that recommendation if that describes your skin type. Personally, I don’t usually deal with extremely dry skin unless I’ve spent a lot of time outside in harsh weather, which I always try to avoid. However, at this time of year, my skin tends to feel drier than I’d like, and my typical moisturizers and serums just aren’t cutting it. It’s not dry enough to need the super-rich products from Dr Jart+, like their Ceramidin Ectoin-Infused Cream, which is incredibly nourishing.
Ceramidin is a fantastic blend that contains ceramides and panthenol, also known as provitamin B5. Panthenol is great because it helps to draw moisture to the skin. It pulls water from deep within the skin and also attracts moisture from the air. Trust me, it works very well. The thing with Dr Jart+ products was that they usually had only the thickest creams meant for severely dry skin. Thankfully, that has changed! They now offer the Ceramidin Skin Barrier Serum Toner, which I absolutely love. This product combines a serum and a light moisturizer, and even though it feels light, it dramatically helps to hydrate and rejuvenate my skin. It also somehow works as a toner, which I find fascinating.
Although the product is meant to be used on clean skin before applying a moisturizer, my skin often feels good enough that I use it alone at bedtime. I wake up with my skin looking well-hydrated and healthy, which is such a nice change. I apply a generous amount using my fingers and enjoy the slightly tacky feel for a while before it absorbs completely in about 10 to 15 minutes. The brand claims that hydration can improve by 134%, and while I’m a bit skeptical of such exact figures, the main takeaway is that you can transform dull, dry skin into nourished, comfortable skin overnight. Plus, you only need to use this one product instead of layering on several different ones, which can sometimes be overwhelming.
For those dealing with extremely dry skin, I would suggest checking out the whole Ceramidin line, especially the skincare products and a fantastic body lotion they have in a tube. They also offer a wonderful sheet mask if you’re feeling particularly dry and want a quick fix to freshen up your skin by the end of the day.
On another note, I’ve been wanting to mention something wonderful for gardeners. Water butts are a must-have for collecting rainwater in your garden, but they often come in boring black or green plastic designs. I found a beautiful zinc water butt from Sarah Raven that isn’t too big and has an appealing look. I plan to treat myself to one as soon as it’s back in stock. It’s not every day you find a charming water butt, but this one certainly fits the bill!
