This sports car topped sales in Andorra for 2024.

If you’ve never heard of Andorra, we wouldn’t be surprised. Known as the Principality of Andorra, this tiny country is the sixteenth smallest in the world, covering just 181 square miles with a population of around 81,000 residents. Even in such a compact space, people rely on vehicles for transportation. Interestingly, the most popular car model sold in 2024 was something that would be quite unusual in most other countries: the Porsche 911.
In many places around the globe, you wouldn’t expect a luxury sports car to top the sales charts. However, in Andorra, it did just that. During 2024, Andorra purchased a total of 2,379 new vehicles, and among them, 83 were Porsche 911s, making it the best-selling vehicle. This surprising statistic was shared by Felipe Munoz of JATO Dynamics, a well-known automotive research firm.
Following the Porsche 911 in popularity was the Toyota GR Yaris with 47 units sold. The rest of the top five included two more Porsches: the Cayenne and the Macan, which sold 46 and 45 units, respectively. A model that had been the top choice in 2023, the Cupra Formentor, fell to the fifth position, with 44 units sold.
When looking at automotive brands overall, Mercedes-Benz took the lead in Andorra with 231 cars sold, although not a single model made it to the top ten list. Porsche ranked just behind, with sales of 210 vehicles. Ford rounded out the top three brands, with 161 sold.
This unique automotive landscape can be attributed to Andorra’s wealth. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reports that the country’s GDP per capita stands at $68,600, which is impressive, though it is slightly less than the United States, where the GDP per capita is about $82,769.
Andorra is nestled in the eastern Pyrenees Mountains, bordered by France and Spain. Its location makes it a popular destination for tourists, attracting more than eight million visitors each year. The combination of thriving tourism, favorable banking regulations, and a low tax rate contributes to its prosperity, despite the country’s small size.
While the Porsche 911 reigns supreme in Andorra, it doesn’t have the same success in the United States, where it doesn’t even make the top 25 list. In 2024, Americans bought over 14,000 Porsche 911s, which sounds impressive until you compare it to the Ford F-series, which had sales surpassing 732,000 units.
Despite being the top-selling model in Andorra, the Porsche 911 starts at a price of $120,100, placing it out of reach for many. It’s quite astonishing for such an expensive sports car to be the best-selling vehicle in any country. Moreover, it wasn’t alone; three Porsche models made it into Andorra’s top five. However, Mercedes-Benz ultimately led in total sales, despite having no vehicles in the top ten.
On a broader scale, the best-selling car in the world remained the Tesla Model Y, followed by the Toyota Corolla and the Toyota RAV4. The Ford F-Series maintained its popularity in America, coming in fourth, and the Honda CR-V rounded out the top five globally.
In conclusion, the situation in Andorra highlights how unique and diverse the automotive market can be. With wealth and a penchant for luxury vehicles, the small nation showcases a different kind of consumer preference, contrasting sharply with the trends seen in larger countries like the United States.
