Three Tata SUVs Expected to Featured New Turbo Petrol Engine Soon in India

Tata Motors is gearing up to enhance its SUV lineup with the introduction of a new 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine for its popular models: the Harrier, Safari, and Sierra. Although an exact launch date is still undisclosed, the new engine is expected to make its debut in the Sierra, which is anticipated to arrive in late 2025. After that, the same engine might also be featured in the Harrier and Safari.
In the midsize SUV market, many buyers show a growing preference for petrol variants. Competitors of Tata are already offering a variety of options, including CNG, mild hybrid, and strong hybrid petrol engines. Currently, both the Harrier and Safari are only available with a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine that delivers a robust performance of 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Tata Motors is also set to introduce the Sierra in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) formats, with the electric version likely arriving first. The petrol version of the Sierra could be launched by the end of this year or in early 2026.
It’s also expected that the Harrier and Safari will follow closely behind the Sierra in adopting the new petrol engine next year. Interestingly, at a recent expo called the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, a nearly finished prototype of the Sierra was displayed, but it was only equipped with a diesel engine. Spy photos suggest that this SUV will have several distinct design features, including a clamshell-style hood, sharp headlights, a wide air intake, a horizontal LED light bar, and upright pillars.
The final version of the Sierra is likely to maintain several important design characteristics, such as a seamless rear window that blends into a stylish black roofline and a panoramic sunroof. Inside, the SUV is expected to be packed with technology, showcasing a three-screen setup, a multifunction steering wheel with four spokes, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), ventilated seats, and numerous airbags for safety.
Furthermore, the electric version of the Tata Sierra is planned to come with two different battery options, with an impressive claimed range of over 500 kilometers on a full charge. Soon, Tata will also launch an electric version of the Harrier, which will be available in both single and dual-motor configurations. These electric models will likely share many features with the upcoming Curvv electric SUV.
In summary, Tata Motors is looking to significantly boost its SUV offerings by introducing a new turbo petrol engine in the Harrier, Safari, and Sierra. With a focus on innovative design and advanced technology, these vehicles are poised to meet the growing demand for petrol and electric SUVs in the market.
