Unlocking Alexa Plus: Amazon’s Latest AI Smart Assistant

Amazon has introduced an upgraded version of its smart assistant called Alexa Plus, which many have been looking forward to. This new feature will begin to be available next month, but entering the program isn’t automatic. If you want to try out Alexa Plus, you’ll need to sign up for it. The service costs $19.99 each month, but for Amazon Prime members, it’s available for free. However, it’s important to note that right now, this upgrade is only for customers in the United States.
To access Alexa Plus, you’ll first need to opt-in through Amazon’s website. When you visit the site, you will be prompted to log in with your Amazon account. Currently, this feature only supports English for U.S.-based users.
If you need to change the language settings on your device to access Alexa Plus, here’s how to do it:
1. Open the Alexa app.
2. Go to the Language settings.
3. Tap on Device options, then Device Language.
4. Choose English (United States).
Once you’ve signed up and your device settings are correct, Alexa Plus will work on all compatible Echo devices, Fire TV, Fire tablets, and even in your web browser and the Alexa app.
The good news is that while early access lasts, Alexa Plus will be free. Amazon has also confirmed that you will not be charged automatically once this early access period finishes, so it will remain free for those with a Prime membership.
To use Alexa Plus, you’ll need specific devices such as the Echo Show 8, 10, 15, or 21. Amazon is planning to expand support to other devices over time, but has made it clear that some older first-generation Echo products will not be compatible. You can check the complete list of devices that support Alexa Plus on Amazon’s website.
For families, there’s an option to let kids use Alexa Plus by creating a child profile. The Kids Edition Echo devices will support this new assistant soon. If you have one of the compatible Echo Shows, you can set up a voice ID for your kids. This means that when a recognized child is using the device, it will switch to Alexa Plus Kids, which offers a safe experience specifically designed for younger users.
Amazon emphasizes that when a child’s profile is recognized, or if the device is set to “Amazon Kids,” there are extra safety features in place. These measures are designed to ensure that kids have a secure experience while using the smart assistant. However, some fun new features, like “Stories with Alexa” and “Explore with Alexa,” will require a subscription to Amazon Kids Plus.
In summary, Alexa Plus represents an exciting enhancement to Amazon’s smart assistant, with new features aimed at improving user experience—especially for families. If you’re in the U.S. and a Prime member, be sure to check it out when it becomes available!
