The US Department of Commerce has awarded over $6.75 billion in funding to Samsung, Texas Instruments, and Amkor Technology under the CHIPS Incentives Program. This program aims to boost domestic semiconductor production and reduce reliance on foreign chip manufacturers.

Samsung received the largest share of the funding, with up to $4.745 billion allocated for its expansion plans in Texas. The company intends to invest a total of $37 billion to build two new production facilities, a research and development site, and expand its existing Austin facility.

Texas Instruments was awarded up to $1.61 billion to support the construction of three new facilities – two in Texas and one in Utah. The company plans to invest over $18 billion in these projects through 2029.

Amkor Technology received up to $407 million to establish an advanced packaging and test facility in Peoria, Arizona. This facility is projected to be the largest of its kind in the US.

The funding will be disbursed as the companies achieve specific project milestones, ensuring accountability and progress towards the program’s goals. The Commerce Department expects these investments to create thousands of jobs and significantly enhance US semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.

This initiative reflects the US government’s commitment to strengthening domestic semiconductor production and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers. By supporting leading companies like Samsung, Texas Instruments, and Amkor Technology, the CHIPS Incentives Program aims to ensure US competitiveness in this critical industry.
