The Issue at Hand
Recently, while my car was being washed, the person washing it accidentally placed my key on the panoramic sunroof. Later, the tailgate began to close automatically, which led to the key getting stuck in a spot below the tailgate hinge. Because of this, the tailgate bent over the key during its closing action. I’ve attached some pictures to show you the damage.
When I took my car to an authorized service center, they quoted me about 11,000 INR for the repairs. This would involve straightening out the bent area and repainting the top section of the tailgate above the glass area.
Concerns About Repainting
I have concerns about the repainting process. I fear that the new paint might not match the original color and finish of my car. Since there are only two minor spots of paint damage near the dent, I wonder if there’s a way to remove the bend without repainting the entire top area. My goal is to achieve as close to 99% smoothness as possible around the bent area while avoiding extra painting.
Warranty Considerations
Currently, the service center is unwilling to perform the repairs based on my preferences. I’m also considering whether I can have the dent repaired at a local garage without voiding my warranty. I would really appreciate your input on this!
