Unlike its predecessor, it wasn’t launched through a crowdfunding campaign. However, availability can fluctuate due to its European manufacturing. The original AAWireless adapter has since been discontinued.
AAWireless Two: What’s Good
The AAWireless Two boasts several improvements over its predecessor. Most notably, it’s significantly smaller, making it more compact and less obtrusive in your car. This smaller design is in line with current trends in similar devices and contributes to its ease of use.
The device features a single button that allows you to easily switch between paired phones or put the connection into standby mode. Furthermore, the functionality of this button can be customized through the AAWireless app. This makes managing multiple user profiles simple and convenient, especially beneficial for shared vehicles or road trips.
This feature is particularly useful for drivers sharing a car; it allows seamless switching between their respective Android phones. While the AAWireless Two currently only supports Android, a future model supporting Apple CarPlay (AAWireless Two Plus) is expected in 2025.
A highly visible LED light clearly indicates connection status. A solid blue light means your phone is connected and running Android Auto. Simple button clicks allow quick and easy switching between paired phones. The AAWireless app provides several additional settings, though many won’t require changes. One helpful feature is the "Audio stutter fix," which addresses potential audio interruptions. Another is "Passthrough," allowing you to make adjustments to things like DPI settings. However, users should be cautious when adjusting settings in Passthrough and only change those they are familiar with.
AAWireless Two: What’s Not Good
Despite its strengths, the AAWireless Two has some minor drawbacks. Initially, connection times may be slightly longer than ideal when compared to a wired connection but will generally improve after initial setup.
Because it is a wireless connection, it does not charge your phone simultaneously. While using a wireless charging pad in your car may negate this, having wired charging cables at hand is recommended. You also need to ensure your car has USB-C ports or have a compatible USB-C to USB-C cable. The adapter only comes with a short USB-C to USB-A cable. There’s also no adhesive pad included to help keep the adapter securely positioned on the dashboard, unlike the previous model.
Availability can be erratic due to its European manufacturing, meaning stock may not always be readily available.
AAWireless Two: Competition
The AAWireless Two stands out among competitors for its ease of use and overall quality. While other wireless Android Auto adapters exist, they often suffer from shortcomings such as infrequent app updates (Carsifi), flawed firmware update processes or poorly written documentation (Carlinkit 5.0), or simply inferior performance compared to the AAWireless Two. The Motorola MA1, once a popular option, has also been surpassed by newer alternatives.
AAWireless Two: Should You Buy It?
Buy this if:
- You need wireless Android Auto in a vehicle that only supports wired Android Auto.
- You share your car with another Android user.
- You value app support for adjustments and troubleshooting.
Don’t buy this if:
- You’re content with using a wired Android Auto connection.
- Your car doesn’t have a wireless charging option.
- You primarily use an iPhone (Apple CarPlay support is expected in a future model).
