OpenAI has introduced a new way to interact with its popular chatbot, ChatGPT: by phone. Users in the US and Canada can now call a toll-free number, 1-800-ChatGPT (+1-800-242-8478), to have a voice conversation with the AI.
This feature is currently limited to 15 minutes of call time per month, but OpenAI may adjust this in the future. For users outside the US and Canada, the same number can be used to chat with ChatGPT via WhatsApp.
While the phone and WhatsApp interactions offer a convenient alternative to the app and website, they lack some features available on those platforms, such as Search, Canvas, and DALL-E image generation.
This move by OpenAI aims to broaden access to ChatGPT, particularly for users in rural areas who may have limited data or haven’t yet experienced the chatbot. By offering a phone-based option, OpenAI is making its AI technology more inclusive and accessible to a wider audience.
This expansion aligns with OpenAI’s strategy to establish ChatGPT as the leading AI chatbot platform. The company has already partnered with Microsoft and Apple to integrate its large language models (LLMs) into their products and has launched ChatGPT on Windows and MacOS.
