Exploring Knakrajhore: A Weekend Adventure in My Mahindra Scorpio N

Exploring Mahindra Scorpio N: A Weekend Trip to Knakrajhore
BHPian sayakc recently shared an account of an exciting journey to Knakrajhore, capturing the essence of a winter adventure.
Winter Wonders in India
Living in this part of India, I cherish the beauty of winter. The mustard fields painted in bright yellow, the sweet taste of date palm jaggery, and the foggy mornings are a delight. In my native Bengali culture, there are delicious treats like joynagar er moa and koraishutir kochuri, which I miss during other seasons. Unfortunately, winter here only lasts about three months, and lately, fluctuating temperatures have made it even more unpredictable.
Setting Off for an Adventure
On the weekend of February 8th and 9th, I teamed up with a friend, someone I’d traveled to remote villages with before, to take an overnight trip to Knakrajhore. While Purulia and Bankura have become well-known travel spots recently, the quieter, less-visited tribal regions like those near Jhargram and the border with Jharkhand are starting to emerge from their isolation.
The Journey Begins
We hit the road at 7 AM, making a quick stop for breakfast at Azad Hind Dhaba in Uluberia. By around 2 PM, we arrived at Kurchi Homestay, our accommodation for the night. After refueling with a delicious lunch, we decided to explore the area. We took a drive to Ketki Lake, where we visited an old temple and a nearby dam. The road conditions varied, and while my previous car, a Swift, might manage these roads well, I felt relieved to be in the Mahindra Scorpio N, which handled the bumps flawlessly.
Memorable Moments by Ketki Lake
Of all the experiences during our stay, the evening by Ketki Lake stood out. The sunset painted the sky with warm orange hues as it dipped behind the hills. Birds flew home, and shepherds returned with their flocks of goats and sheep. We relaxed under a large sal tree, soaking in the tranquil atmosphere across the still waters of the lake. The experience brought back memories of wandering through sprawling mustard fields, where yellow blooms stretched endlessly into a misty horizon, the fragrant aroma of mustard filling the air.
Culinary Delights and Disappointments
For dinner that night, we enjoyed roti with chicken curry, which turned out to be the highlight of our meal. Unfortunately, the local specialty, Sal pata pora chicken, was disappointing, suggesting a recent change in the kitchen staff.
Exploring the Surroundings
After breakfast the next morning, we checked out and revisited Ketki Lake to bask in its serene beauty one last time. We took a scenic route through small villages and rolling hillocks, passing by tranquil lakes on our way to Jhargram via Belpahari and Silda. Once in Jhargram, we stopped at Hotel Abhijeet for a hearty meal of fried rice and chili chicken, which felt like a treat before heading back home.
Visual Memories of the Trip
Throughout our journey, we captured numerous images of the stunning views and experiences. From the vibrant mustard fields glowing in the sunset to moments spent at Ketki Lake, these photographs will remind us of a wonderful trip. The natural beauty and quiet charm of Knakrajhore highlight why this region is worth exploring for anyone seeking an escape from the urban rush.
Final Thoughts
The experience we had reinforces the magic of traveling through lesser-known areas. The Mahindra Scorpio N proved to be not just a mode of transportation but a reliable companion for our adventure, allowing us to explore the beauty of West Bengal comfortably. Whether itβs the serenity of Ketki Lake or the allure of the rolling hills dotted with mustard fields, this journey will remain etched in my memory as a cherished getaway.
