JBL Unveils Flip 7 and Charge 6 Speakers with Enhanced Battery Life and Sound Quality

JBL has recently introduced updated versions of two of its well-known Bluetooth speakers: the JBL Flip 7 and the JBL Charge 6. These new models come with several enhancements aimed at improving user experience. The JBL Flip 7 sports a tougher design, an enhanced tweeter for better sound quality, and an extended playtime of two additional hours compared to its predecessor. Meanwhile, the JBL Charge 6 benefits from an upgraded woofer and an impressive four extra hours of battery life.
Both speakers utilize JBL’s AI Sound Boost technology, which the company claims can enhance volume levels without introducing distortion. This feature, while not entirely new, marks its debut in JBL’s Flip and Charge series. According to JBL, the technology employs an artificial intelligence algorithm to analyze real-time audio, thereby optimizing the speaker’s acoustic output. This optimization is particularly valuable since distortion can occur when portable Bluetooth speakers are pushed to maximum volume. However, it remains to be seen how well this technology addresses the issue in practical use.
The previous model, the JBL Flip 6, offered a maximum battery life of 12 hours, whereas the new Flip 7 extends this to 14 hours on a full charge. Notably, JBL has introduced a Playtime Boost feature that can prolong battery life up to 16 hours. However, this feature essentially reduces lower bass frequencies and may compromise overall audio quality to make battery consumption more efficient. The JBL Charge 6 follows suit with a total playtime of up to 24 hours, which can be increased to 28 hours if users are willing to sacrifice some sound quality by lowering bass output.
In terms of design, the JBL Flip 7 has achieved an IP68 rating, which means it is both waterproof and dustproof, making it suitable for various outdoor conditions. Additionally, it comes equipped with a removable carrying strap or a carabiner attachment for easier transport. This model also supports multi-speaker connectivity through Bluetooth Auracast and allows for high-resolution, lossless audio when linked directly to a device via a USB-C cable.
The JBL Charge 6 shares similar enhancements, including its waterproof and dustproof features and the same high-res audio capabilities when connected via USB-C. It also includes a versatile carrying strap that can be attached at one end for a wrist-like use or at both ends for a more traditional carrying handle.
Overall, the new JBL Flip 7 and Charge 6 offer notable improvements in sound quality, battery life, and usability, making them appealing options for music enthusiasts who appreciate robust and flexible portable speakers.
