Tata Sierra Patent Illustration Shows Subtle Design Modifications

Upcoming Launch of the Tata Sierra SUV
Tata Motors is gearing up for the launch of its new SUV, the Tata Sierra, which is anticipated to debut in the latter half of this year. The company has recently filed a design patent for this vehicle in India, indicating their commitment to this modern reimagining of a classic model.
The Tata Sierra, originally popular in the 1990s, features a boxy design that harkens back to its predecessor while integrating new design elements. At a recent event—the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo—the SUV was shown in a nearly finished form, giving attendees a glimpse of its potential.
The design has undergone some modifications from the original concept. Notably, the thick B-pillar that characterized the older model has been slimmed down, resulting in a sleeker appearance. However, the Sierra retains its distinctive squared-off wheel arches and clean, straightforward lines, elements that contribute to its robust and rugged aesthetic.
Under the hood, the Tata Sierra is expected to come with two engine options. One of the engines is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that delivers approximately 168 horsepower and a torque of 280 Nm. The second engine option is a well-known 2.0-litre diesel engine that also powers Tata’s Harrier and Safari models. This reliable diesel engine offers similar performance figures, boasting 168 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.
In addition to the gasoline and diesel variants, Tata Motors plans to introduce the Sierra in an electric version, known as the Sierra EV. This electrified model will be built on Tata’s Gen2 EV platform, using the advanced acti.ev architecture. This platform is designed to support a range of features that enhance performance, efficiency, and connectivity, aligning with the current trend towards eco-friendly vehicles.
Tata Motors has established itself as a key player in the Indian automotive market, particularly with its recent focus on electric mobility and sustainable technologies. The company aims to cater to a growing customer base that is increasingly interested in environmentally friendly options without compromising on performance and style.
The Tata Sierra’s combination of classic design with modern technology aims to attract both long-time fans of the brand and new customers looking for a versatile SUV. As we anticipate its release, the enthusiasm surrounding the Sierra suggests it will be a welcoming addition to Tata’s lineup, appealing to various segments of the market looking for innovation in design and capability.
With Tata Motors continuing to evolve, the Sierra stands as a testament to the brand’s commitment to blending nostalgia with the latest automotive advancements, making it an exciting model to watch as it prepares for launch later this year. Keep an eye on this upcoming release for updates as we get closer to its introduction on the market.
