The new Fable game for Xbox has been postponed until 2026.

Microsoft has announced that the release of its new game, Fable, will not happen in 2025 as initially planned but has been pushed back to 2026. Last year, the company announced that Fable would be ready sometime in 2025, but they have decided to give the game more time for development. Craig Duncan, who leads Xbox Game Studios, shared this update during a recent episode of the official Xbox podcast. He mentioned, “We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025; we are actually going to give Fable more time, and it’s going to ship in 2026 now.” Duncan understands that this might not be the news many fans were hoping for, but he reassured everyone that it will be worth the wait. He has complete faith in the team at Playground Games, the developers working on Fable.
Last year, during the Xbox summer showcase, some early gameplay footage of Fable was revealed. This footage primarily focused on the game’s characters and storyline. The main character of Fable is a hero named Humphry, who finds himself drawn back into action when a mysterious figure from his past poses a threat to Albion, the game’s fictional world. Recently, Microsoft has also released additional gameplay footage, which fans are eager to see.
Playground Games, known for their expertise in developing the Forza Horizon series, is behind this newest version of Fable. Duncan expressed excitement about what they are bringing to the franchise. He stated, “What they’re bringing to the Fable franchise… just think of the visuals of what you expect from Playground Games, plus amazing gameplay, British humor, and Playground’s take… it’s quite frankly the most beautifully realized version of Albion that you’ve ever seen.” This suggests that players can expect not only stunning graphics but also an engaging and humorous experience.
In addition to Fable, Microsoft has a full lineup of Xbox games set to be released this year. These include titles like South of Midnight, a new installment in the popular Doom franchise titled Doom: The Dark Ages, The Outer Worlds 2, and possibly even Gears of War: E-Day. With such an exciting array of games on the way, players have plenty to look forward to while waiting for Fable’s release in 2026.
Overall, while fans may be disappointed about the delay, the extended development time can lead to a more polished and enjoyable game experience. With confidence from the development team and exciting gameplay footage already being shared, anticipation for Fable continues to grow among the gaming community.
