xAI, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, is testing a standalone app for its Grok chatbot. Currently available in beta for iOS in select regions, the app allows users to interact with Grok without needing the X social media platform.
The Grok app, powered by the Grok 2 AI model, is free to use and accepts both text and images as input, generating responses in both formats. It leverages the Aurora image generation model for image-based outputs.
Grok can answer queries requiring real-time information, drawing data from both X and the wider web. Users can also customize the chatbot’s conversational tone, including a “Fun Mode” for humorous and satirical responses.
While xAI has not officially announced the standalone Grok app, its appearance on the App Store in certain regions suggests a potential expansion beyond the X platform. It remains unclear whether an Android version is also in development.
This move by xAI could make Grok more accessible to a wider audience and position it as a competitor to other AI chatbots in the market. As the beta testing progresses, further details about the app’s features and global availability are expected.
